Delivery of Qurbani.
We have been responding to the needs of the poorest in Malawi since 2006 and implementing Qurbani on behalf of its generous supporters. Last year with your love and support, 20,000 of the poorest people received fresh and quality Qurbani meat. We make sure the most impoverished and poorest people living in the most remote areas, where the communities hardly receive any support, benefit from the Qurbani. We target the vulnberable, elderly and sick. For many this will the only meat they have on many, many months.
On whom Qurbani (Udhiyah) is Wajib?
Qurbani is an Urdu and Persian word derived from the Arabic word “Qurban”, which literally means an act performed to seek Allah’s pleasure.
It is technically used for the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah following the practice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
It is carried out in the holy month of Zul Hijjah in the Days of Eid-ul-Adha.
Qurbani is wajib on every Muslim who is of sound mind, mature (who has reached the age of puberty), living in his home town (i.e. he is not a traveller) and possesses
the amount of fifty two and half totals of silver (612-36 grams) or wealth equivalent to that value which is in excess of one’s (basic) needs.
It is not necessary that this amount be in one’s possession for a complete lunar year. It’s possession during the three days of Qurbani will make Qurbani obligatory.
Qurbani is not incumbent on a child or an insane person whether they own wealth equivalent to the amount above or not, nor is it wajib upon their guardians to perform it
on their behalf. Similarly, it is not wajib on a traveller
